Does anyone know how to remove the dead axel from the frame of a 59 Rupp kart . Is it full length and maybe pinned somewhere or should it just drive out.

the axle is 1 piece, not pinned just tight fit. I have removed a few of them.
put a thick nut on and leave it up a few threads, to allow the nut to flatten without hitting the axle. then hammer it out
I've had to use an air hammer and sometimes heating up the axle tube, careful not to heat it up to much
go slow keep checking nut as not to damage threads

Why not tip on side & penetrate lube it for a week or so. Then get some washers or tubes & use it to pull it out? Once I got it below the tube I would fill tube and soak for another week.

Thanks for the info. I did not want to beat on it without knowing if it was pinned, possibly under the U bracket.

This has been a interesting topic on something that is pretty safe to say rarely gets thought about or discussed.

This was a very difficult job. We first put the penetrating oils on , and tried to pull the axle out using the end threads with spacers. We decided to cut the axle in half. One side came using an impact wrench and a lot of heat , but the other side wouldn't move and kept stripping the thread. Then we shortened that side quite close to the motor mount and still with a lot of heat and
hammering it finally came out. It took a lot of time to do this job and might have been easier to cut the whole axle out and start over. But it's now coming together and hopefully will make it to the BIG ONE .

Are the original axles hardened ?

Can you show us your replacement procedure ?

Axle was not hardened and with some reaming we slide the new one in. We also slid it onto a new piece of frame pipe to replace the piece cut out between the motor mounts. Hope to weld the frame today and tap the threads on the axle .
