Good morning fellow karters,
Things are on the mend here and have decided to go with a West Bend 820 for my bug. Which rotation will I need for my Kart. The sprocket is on the driver side at this point should I go with it as it is. If so which rotation is that. I'd like to mount the engine in the middle. Still looking for a nice seat if anybody happens to have one? Thank you for all of your support as we get close to Christmas family and my family here is really important to me (at my Advanced age LOL.) Mark

Mark, most 820's are clockwise rotation at the clutch end of the crank. That mounts the sprocket on the right side of the engine as you stand behind the kart. These crankshafts have 7/16-20 left hand threads, if the engine has the regular West Bend kart crank. Ted

Having a custom-made with recoil and compression release for easy start from me. I know that's not the usual set up but sounds kind of slick. Frank in Ohio is building it

Doesn't matter which direction for performance. Just build it the way it fits best on the kart. If you still have my phone, please call. I would like a word with you. Ted

Mark,

Careful with that recoil, 820's have a kick.

I'm afraid I persuaded Mark not to put a compression release head on it, but I still think it'll be O.K. with proper care and technique. Jim Donovan is bringing a 10T clutch drum to my place when he goes to Riverside. That'll make it more versatile. This thing's going to make Mark a nice engine. Ted
