We have had great luck with plastic bead blasting. Make sure media is clean (pay extra) and some painted wheels come out amazingly well preserved with all that paint on them. Just look in the phone book & go talk to the guy before you just drop stuff off. Take pictures and give drop one off. They have proof, you have proof & they do a much better job of keeping track of it when documented.

The original A-Bone did not come with a narrow hoop until 1967. Yours could be a 67 or so, I had a 67 in 1969 with that Rupp steering wheel so it could be accurate. Front bumpers showed up in 1964, so yours probably is not a 63. Now, let me really mess things up, I met a fella from Canton, Ohio at Fremont a few weeks ago. He had a restored 63 Brand X kart. It had a narrow steering hoop, front bumper, and the Rupp steering wheel. Now why did Rupp bring out his Brand X Karts with these newer options and keep them back on his regular kart line. I know several people that have Brand X, but I don't have much of a history behind them.

Not sure if the story is 100% correct but I think it went something like multi time national champ Jim Walter who was a factory Rupp drivers Father had a kart shop named Mr.X kart shop or raced under the number 'X' so Mickey Rupp made the Brand X kind of a homage to Jim's father and there was another reason also I believe. Next time I see Jim I will ask him about the X and get the whole story.

My pop used to run Super Heavy with the letter "X". I can still remember the Rockledge, Florida track announcer over the P.A.: "Here comes Mr. X!" Ted
