I bought this kart about 12 years ago for my then 4 year old son. He has moved on now to cars but his younger brother 12yrs old has been on my case to get his cherished kart running for him for his birthday.

Being the kind of guy i am, i went full monte restore mode. And in the pics you can see why since over the years it has taken on childish paint jobs lol. Now that my son is older im sure he will respect the work put in.

So what lind of kart is it? Year range?

Looks like a narrow hoop Rupp A Bone to me. I see an extra brace on the front axle. You can get a new axle from Rob Stanton At Rob-Ron.

I agree with Roger . I am guessing a 1963 with that steering wheel with the slotted spokes.

That brace was a chunk of rebar welded there for support after an incident running into the shed. From the story it sounded like ghost karting by my youngest son. Needless to say, he didnt get it fixed until winter that year.

Eventually others will share their thoughts and will help confirm the Year.

Welcome aboard.

Notice the kart has 5 inch front wheels dating it as a later year however the slotted steering wheel says otherwise. Either way its always good to see a old kart put back into service.

Im not sure how to get these rims back to original condition. These things have some serious years of paint and so many edges to try and get into... thoughts? Stay original or update? Im such a noob, im willing to listen and learn frm you all. Patience please.

Good old chemical paint remover might take the paint off. Vapor blasting will do it, leaving the surfaces in very good condition. Our friend, Sam Bennett in Merritt Island, FL, has done wonders with old kart parts of all types. He uses a media burnishing process. A really good commercial site for vapor blasting is Resto Cycle in Tucson, AZ. Nils is reasonable, will ship, and does a great job on vintage. He's a commercial outfit, so I don't mind giving out his contact.
