Anybody putting together new motors or karts for this year?

Post by Rick Brown » Sat Mar 24, 2018 1:01 pm

I'm in the process of assembling a Chapparal. It has a 3 bearing rear axle and I'm running a single 101 on the right side. I'm having a little trouble mounting the brake caliper and am confused about a few other things also. I hope someone can shine some light on these questions for me.
1. I have a Rupp aluminum caliper bracket, should this mount flush outboard of the left side bearing?
2. Would I be better off mounting it to the center bearing bracket. If so, does anyone have an extra bracket that the caliper bolts to that they would sell?
3. I have 2 styles of bearings for the rear axle, one type has the cam locking collar and the other has just a set screw. Would the the cam style be the best?
4. Can Bob K call me sometime?
It would be nice to hear about any fresh stuff coming together. I'm more guilty than anyone but it would be great to get a little chatter going on the forum. Rick Brown

Rick
Does you aluminum bracket hold both the master cylinder AND caliper? Outboard is fine. Watch bleeder to tire sidewall clearance.

Some karts have the master cylinder bracket welded on from left frame rail. Then all you need is the bracket for the caliper.

I usually run the center bearing free with no locks, cam locks or set screws.

I've got three new karts for the big show this fall. This is a 1968 Newbreed.

Kurt, Dick,

Great looking karts Gentlemen.

Thank you both for doing such a nice job saving Americas Karting past. Both of those karts are at the top of many peoples personal favorites list.

I have a couple Hot Rod West Bend 580's I'll be working on for next year. Not anything like the normal when I get done. Re-invent the wheel.

Steve,

Keep us updated on your build.

Oh, and as the kids say " without pictures it didn't happen'.

Kurt I like that painted tank on the Dart. Good choice! I have one I painted with "hammer finish" & it's one of my favorites.
