Gran Prix throttle rod, cable

Hi, all.

My name is Kurt. I just signed up for this forum yesterday, though I've been using the resource for many years. During that time, I have been gathering parts to restore what I believe to be a 1964 Rupp Gran Prix. In fact, I've probably purchased a number of parts from R.E.A.R. members over the years. I have finally decided to stop procrastinating and begin the reassembly process.

So, my first official question is this: Can anyone show me pictures of what "correct" throttle rod / cable hardware looks like, and whether or not that hardware is available? I am referring to the hardware where the rod and cable meet on the frame bracket. (I know there was a thread about this a while back, but the photos contained in that topic are no longer available.)

Thanks for your time! --Kurt

Kurt here is the throttle setup on my '64 Grand Prix. Not sure how much of it is correct. Just the way we have it on mine.

Hi, Robert!

Your cart looks sharp!

That adapter, between the washer and the cotter pin, that the ball end of the cable slides into, is exactly the piece I've been trying to track down. My kart has been disassembled for about 20 years now, and, now that I'm finally working on resurrecting it, that is the only piece that I cannot locate. I was beginning to wonder if I was mis-remembering what that piece looked like. Do you (or any other readers of this thread) know where I can source one such piece?

Also, I only recently began to be uncertain of my kart's year of manufacture. For years I have assumed that my 4" front wheels made it a '64, but mine has short tie rods and pleated upholstery. Also, my bracket for the throttle rod bushing and cable anchor is flipped over by comparison to yours. I wonder if mine is a '65?

Kurt,

Welcome aboard.

Try Robron for the inner cable pull. 1-800-624-7383.

Here is what the inner cable pull should looks like, you could probably make something on your own that would work just fine.

This set-up has a non stock outer cable housing carrier.

Roberts cable set up appears to be upside down like you said. Have seen both ways from the factory.

Wow! All of these pictures are super helpful. Especially the exploded view! I was considering calling Robron, but I was at a loss for the correct terminology. There should be no excuses now. Thanks!

Kurt,

"Inner cable pull" is a personal description.

The correct Rupp factory name for the part is 'Throttle Cable Adaptor'. Factory part #10170. Sorry for any confusion.

"part #10170". Even better. Thanks again. I have discovered that it is amazing what can be found when you know exactly what to ask for.

REAR: By the way, I tried to contact Robron today and was confronted with a message about the phone number having been changed, followed by an offer to purchase a $100.00 gift card for "significantly less than face value... Just be sure to have your credit card ready". Is it possible that the number you provided is typo'd or no longer in service?

The 800 number is no longer used by Robron. The correct number= 843-479-6962.

Thanks for the current phone number, Chris. I contacted Robert Stanton and will be placing a small order soon.
