Hprod Rod Cap Bolts

Hi All,

I remember a similar thread awhile back on this same subject but I can't recall the answers.
I have a nicely modified engine that has a Hyprod installed that someone gave me to go thru and it was disassembled and one rod cap bolt is missing as welll as some other things. He wants to run the rod so I need to find a bolt.
I think it is a #12-28x1 socket head cap screw with the head tapered.
I can taper the head myself but I need a new bolt, maybe two. Anyone know where I can find one or two and if a standard grade 8 alloy screw is good enough. Seems like the larger size should allow the use of a G8 bolt.

I also need to know what torque value to use in the aluminum rod.
Any help is greatly appreciated, see ya at TBO in a couple weeks.

Scott

Scott,

Does a stock MC rod bolt fit it ? If so I got what you need.

Thanks Bob but they take a larger size, #12 vs #10 on the Mac.
Makes them harder to find,
See ya in a couple weeks, bringin' a Clinton and an Mc10 and an unusual goodie for the Americana table. Can't wait.

Scott,

Damn, everything I have is for standard MC rods. Sorry. Here's a secret, get real name brand Allen Bolts from Danaher and your good to go.

Make sure you bring enough Clinton, I hear there is some guy who has a factory ride and he's bringin it. LOL!

See you in a few bud...Bob

Enzo sent me an email and it looks like the bolts are actually 12-36 and I don't stand a chance in hell to find one of those so I guess the guy gets a 91 rod.

Clinton,
I took my two grand kids to the track yesterday, 102# Liam on a GP with an Mc91 and 80# Cate on my 61 A-Bone with my Mod Clinton. They are both fast but Cate flys with that little Clinton and Liam had to work to catch her. The Clinton is running better than ever since I put in the new Moss Lite racing piston. Of course when 180# me sits in there it is a lot slower so I will see how I'll do against the big money Clintons, Sam will probably do better. Time will tell. We are going to the track again today, the kids can't get enough. They went thru 5 gals of gas yesterday. If we don't blow the Clinton or wear it out, it will be at TBO next week. Too bad Cate can't come with me, she would take them all!!!

Google specialty fasteners. Make a few phone calls. They will either point you in the right direction or give you the bad news.

Scott,

Both Fastenal and Grainger have #12 - 28 x 1 unbrako cap screws. Maybe you can check out one there. Burst strength in not mentioned.

Problem solved.
Got an original #12-36 Hyprod bolt.
All set now.
Thanks for all the suggestions,
Scott
