Hey All-
I was given this motor yesterday and was told that it was some kind of power products, but in looking at it, it doesn't seem to be the case. I thought it might be some kind of Clinton, but there are no manufacturer's ID marks on it. Does anyone have a clue what it is?
I posted a couple of pics here: http://www.geocities.com/voxnut/weirdomotor.html
Thanks,
Dean
can anyone help me ID this weirdo motor?

Dean,
Looks like a old 2 stroke engine that was used Jacobson real type mower. I probably cut 100 acres with this type of mower . Not sure of the manufacture.

probably off a Jacobson reel grass cutter like a country club golf course or somebody with a giant lawn would have used in the 60s. I just saw some Jakes at Adams.

Hey thanks guys!
The nubby crank and the fact that it has a bushing on the con rod probably means that it won't make it on a kart- I don't have an early kart project that is in need of a motor right now- but this might see some duty on a mini bike someday.
I did a search on e-bay and there is a Jacobsen J-501 engine up right now that looks to be the same motor.
Thanks again,
Dean

Hi, Dean! Ron and Tom are right. Dad sold hundreds of the Jacobsen reel and rotary mowers '50's thru '70's. Very reliable cross-scavenged engine, but not a lot of power. They don't do badly on a minibike. When I lived in Racine, WI in the late '80's/early '90's, I used to walk by the old Jake plant on my way to work. There was a fenced in loading area with thousands of the unmachined cylinder castings there. TJ

I run one on a mini-bike also.
Ended up converting it from reed to piston port induction.
Ran much faster then.
