I inherited a go kart with twin McCulloch MCR-45d engines. I cannot find very much on the engines and I can get them to start but have issues with tuning the carbs. A few questions: does anyone know the value for these engines? Does anyone know where I can find information on tuning them and getting the right air gas and oil mixture

Pahl,

Not sure what a MCR-45d engine is exactly without viewing it, not familiar with those i.d. numbers.

Can you post a picture of your kart or can you send us a private email thru this site with your personal email so you can send us a picture off site for some further identification of the engines and carb types.

Remember that the carb is the heart of a 2-cycle and if she is not in good working order you can easily ruin a set of good engines.

That I D is a reference to the IPL listed on this site indicating a revised "R" illustration that was created.
Just drop the R.

8 oz oil per gallon or as much as 12 oz. None of that 50:1 stuff for these engines. Flatback carbs or Tillotson carbs? It came with a flatback. Have you installed new diaphragms? After 50 years or so they get hard and will not pump.

If these have been setting for a long time the upper rod bearings will most likely be gummed up .
The crank seals are old and could be leaking .
I would service the motors before making any more attempts at running them .
If you dont and either one of these have happened ,,,,, major damage.
Not trying to be mean , just dont want to see possibly good motors get trashed .
