I'm building a Mac 101 and need ideas on a replacement carburetor.

Totally depends on what you're doing. You can replace the BDC Mac carb with either a 34mm Mikuni, or an HR Tillotson. Either will work well. If you replace the manifold, perhaps with a GEM V-12 unit, a pair of 1" Tillotson HL carbs such as HL-250's will run very well indeed. Any of these carbs will perform well on gas, or if modified, on alky. My pal, Charlie, runs his 101D with a V-12 and two alky modified HL-250's. It ran great right off the bat. The engine is internally stock, I just refreshed it with new rings, seals and gaskets. Ted

Thanks, Rob. Gotta see Doc a week from today. He'll tell me where I stand. I'd love to make Tucson at the end of March. Ron is still recovering=g from his foot surgery. Hope to see you guys again one day! Ted

Keep in mind what you plan to do with your engine. Seen plenty of good running motors with a 1" single tilloston also.

I will be running at Fremont. Like to keep it gas.. I will probably put twinn carbs on but didn't know what tillotson number would be the best.

Gas or Alky?

Look at what these folks have to offer.

Never ran dual carbs on gas but if you go the alky route the HL-348 series work real well in a dual configuration.
The HR 181 single on gas is a real popular set-up used by many.

Ok thanks. What about just one carb using gas?

Brian,
A HR-181 seems to work real well on a 101 even with the stock manifold and reed cage converted for Tillotson use and this seems to be a very popular single carb set-up.
Call the folks at E.C from the above link and tell them what your doing and ask them what they recommend.
Perhaps others can chime in with their single suggestions.
A word of caution, Be real careful with the Ebay stuff because unless you know who your buying a carb from it can turn into a real crap shoot as to what you really purchased. Don't want to scare you just protect you because the carb is the 'heart' of a 2 cycle engine and you need a good one.
