Cates Kart

I was hoping to find a Cates kart for a few years, when I had a chance to buy one I jumped on it. The design with the fiberglass seat, square tubing, hollow aluminum axle, 70lb. weight w/engine and scrub brakes are interesting. This is a 1961 model go chassis. Moving the pedals back to their original position is the main task. It came with a bone stock Mc6 with direct drive that tried to start when I pushed it a few feet. This Texas built kart pre-dates any European design that incorporates a feature seen in the latest karts with the remote mounted fiberglass seat, I believe. If anyone has the outside half of a Hands rear wheel for sale I sure could use it. Thanks!

Dominic,
Nice kart. I am happy to see a Cates show up. I am looking for one and still hold out that the person that has mine will sell me it back will sell it back to me. I raced it in the early 1960's. I would appreciate if you would send me some pictures of yours since I am unable to download the one on this website. Thanks.

I have an original unpainted 1960 Cates twin with a single Bendix brake if you are interested in another rare Cates Kart.

early Cates Karts used Hands wheels and later on they used the first generation Go Power wheels.
