Fuel Injected West Bend

I had the pleasure of meeting a gentlemen named Tony Palumbo of Perrysburg Ohio this past weekend who has returned to the track after a 40 plus year absence with a very interesting kart that he ran back in the day.
Tony's kart is a Blackhawk chassis which is a very unique design in its own right however there is much more to Tony's kart which separates it from others. The real feature on Tony's kart is the fuel delivery system which Tony developed and built himself for the West Bend 610 engine with MOSS exhaust running thru a Margay gearbox.
Tony's has mounted a GEM pyramid reed dual top manifold to his West Bend however instead of using the tried and true Tilloston carb that so many run Tony has mounted a pair of 19MM Dellortos much like the carbs that were on the Rupp Blackwidow minibike.
Now here's where the real tricks start. Since the Dellorto carbs Tony choose are float bowl type carbs and have no built in pumps Tony first mounted a remote fuel pump driven by a small belt off the crankshaft behind the recoil then he removed the float bowls from the carbs and plumbed the fuel lines from the pump into adjustable valves at the bottom of the carbs with a return line to the fuel tank thus creating a fully functional mini fuel injection system.
Take a look at the photos below and make special note of the sanitary fuel pump mounting and the required plumbing Tony needed to make his idea a reality.
In case your wondering if Tony's system is just a bunch of razzle-dazzle I'm here to say his kart started on the first pull and ran like a champ all day long.

Tony will be attending THE BIG ONE this year so make sure to stop by his pit and check out his ingenious craftsmanship.
