AH58 seal clip removal

Post by stan wauthier » Thu Feb 06, 2014 7:19 pm

Help!! What's the trick to removing the seal retaining clips on the AH58? Joel recently picked one up, he's acquired a new piston, rings, seals and clips, and bearings, but we're stumped as to how to remove the clips. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bobby Mua told me to drill a 1/16" hole thru the nose from the side near the break in the clip. Then push the clip end inward with a pic so you can pry it out. It works!!
Good luck

Thanks, Scott. That's actually one possibility we had discussed. We'll now be on our way with the refresh. Joel had been on the lookout for a good AH58 ever since being the bridesmaid on the raffle at TBO. Nothing like coming in second to inspire the search!

That is the same clip removal method I used on AH82's. When you replace the clip, orient it so one of the ends of the clip covers that hole .. then it can be easily removed next time around. Also, as it looks, that area of these castings is VERY thin and weak .. never pry at one of those clips .. and when installing main bearings support the casting so there is NO pressure applied to that seal / clip area (it will break very easily, ...I've done it when I knew better, be careful).
