Another kart to identify

Post by Darin Linnell » Sat Jan 18, 2014 9:31 pm

Hello,
I have another kart I would like to find something about. I happened to run across this one today and thought for $100 I couldn't go wrong. I figured I could at least get my money back by selling the parts off of it if its not worth anything.
Thanks for the help!

If there isn't a Black Dog hair in the bag it's not a Black Dog product

What you have is a horribly cobbled up Bug Stinger. Front porch, bumper and pedals are not correct. The pedals look to be copies of Bug Black Widow or Supersprint. I still use that type on my enduro. The seat originally was bolted down to tabs welded on frame, not welded like that is. The motor mount should be a flat aluminum plate with a long slot and bolted to tabs welded on single frame rail on right side. The inner frame rail(s) and under seat cross member were also added. That style dual frame rail motor mount was not used by Bug until introduction of the Black Widow in 1978. This chassis is or was more recently being reproduced by Bug and should be links on one of the other vintage sites.

In its day from 1969 to 1974 that kart was the shiznits to drive. I have two right now but never got the chance to race one when new or still competitive.
