Gas/oil ratio...A safe mixture

Having been coach of my daughter's fastpitch softball team the last five summers and autumns, I haven't had a kart out of the shed in at least that long. Now that she is a senior in high school, she says she is done with club ball beginning this fall. Sooooo, I get to take a kart to Fremont this weekend and visit with friends I haven't seen in a while, and meet some new ones.

Question is, what is a safe mix of gas and oil to run through my trusty WB610? My weed wacker is 40:1 and my blower is 50:1, but those both seem a little lean to me. I'm sure this has been addressed before, and I have probably missed it. But thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I'm looking forward to getting back amongst the old karts and their owners!

Quentin,

I'm from the old school and run a 20 to 1 mixture and it works OK for me. Many run 16 to 1 and even richer and it works for them. The 20 to 1 mixture is as lean as you should go with these old engines. We were running 50 to 1 and leaner at John Deere when we were racing but we had cam ground pistons and much better tolerance control than kart engines. We also had oil injection, water cooling and better carbs.

The problem I have with the real rich mixtures has nothing to do with performance. My shield and camera lens gets covered in oil mist when I get behind the rich running guys and gals.

Hope to meet you at TBO.

Dick, Thanks you for your suggestions and explanations. Tell you the truth, I had totally forgotten what mix I ever did run in the 610. I'll take your advice and play it safe.

Likewise, I look forward to meeting you in Fremont!
