Typical wall thickness for tubing?

Post by sam bennett » Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:48 pm

First Post.
I've searched the entire forum and checked old copies of Karting rags and have very little info on typical wall thickness.
One spec on an older Bug lists 1.00 (.083) wall for main tubing and 1.00 (.120) wall for front axle tube. Does this sound about right?
I'm sure that every individual builder had their own design, but generally speaking...

Thanks.

"Does this sound about right?"........yep. Lots of frames had light rear bumpers and different cross tubes also.

1" chrome-moly .083 was common for kart frames. I make mine out of .095. Chrome-moly is the best tubing to use for a kart that has no suspension. Many people use DOM steel. It is Drawn Over Mandrel. It is also seamless like 4130 chrome moly, but not as strong.
