Mystery Kart ?

Post by Joe Buffardi » Thu Jan 17, 2013 6:26 pm

I just bought this mystery kart. It looks alot like something Rathmann would have designed. It has a Mc49 engine and looks to be all original and untouched. The construction of the kart has aircraft qualities it was built very well and is very strong and it's all aluminum with a stainless steel box tube front axle. There is an H&H disc brake assembly on it and mcculloch magnesium rear wheels and unknown wheels in the front. If any of the experts here know what it is that would be great. I will be displaying it at Adams Kart track in Riverside this year. Thanks and take care. Joe Buffardi

Thank's Domonic, I have been doing some research and it may be a Walter Giese creation. The design is very similar to Light and Lethal custom built kart in Karting world november of 1962. This could be a later design and creation. I am still searching for the answer. This is tough one. There are a lot of Exhaust Specialties water transfer decals on it and this Kart is from Washington.

I think I wrote over your post on accident Dominic. It's been a while since I have been on this site. I just pulled out all my karts from storage and getting them ready for Adams. My Caretta will be racing again with a Mc-7

Hi Joe,
Very cool kart. Sorry no help on id. But an fyi on the rear wheels, they are Azusa Tristars. Very similar to Mc wheels with the most telling notable difference, the three bolts connecting the wheel halves on the Mc wheels are recessed.
Good luck,
Kevin

Right on the wheels my bad. Thanks for the compliment. I am a Hands wheel fan mostly. I have been hoarding them for years and will never sell them. I used to sell a lot of kart parts but I have calmed down due to I love to race them in the vintage events and the parts are getting very scarce.

Not your fault Joe, I deleted my post. I've seen this kart on Craigslist. I think for Minnesota or Illinois, and I liked it.

Thanks for the compliments. For a Mc49 it's pretty fast. I still have to change all the hardware on the complete kart and saftey everything before I can run it at Adams.

That Tice kart is neat also. It's similar but no where near the quality and workmanship of this mystery green kart I have. Im not putting it down in any way shape or form. I am just comparing styles and techniques of the way the karts were built. My green kart has a square tube stainless steel front axle with custom made kingpins and spindles. It looks as if it was made to go very fast by the way it is set-up. It may have had a different engine on it.
