whats the hp rating for a mac 49 and what should i expect ti pay for one thanks

Depends on which model 49 you are going to use. The original 49 was very low hp due to fewer ports cut in compared with the later versions 49C and 49E. The C and R motors had 50% more port area on both intake and exhaust than the original 49. There are small differences in the output between the C and E primarily due to differences in the intake manifold and carb.
It also depends on the way the chosen engine is set up. If it is run on gas rather than alky and is equipped with a simple open header exhaust you are looking at about 6hp for the later models. If you run an expansion chamber and alky you can push the power up to over 10HP.
Price is variable as well.... very clean C or E motors that have been rebuilt will command a price over $500, the early version does not bring near the price.
