DROPPED PAN DESIGN KART

Post by Phil Riley » Tue Jan 01, 2008 11:25 pm

I was looking at a 1961 Car Craft mag. and saw a picture of a kart with a dropped pan design. The kart featured a upper rail on each side and the pan made up the rest of the chassis. This must not have been a popular design, but it sure looked good. If anyone has any information on who might have manufactured this type of kart or any pictures I would appreciate the response. Thanks, Phil.

There were a few designed that way. One I remember clearly was a Bonanza and Hornet also built several chassis in that manner. I liked the way they looked too!

I don't know the exact kart you're talking about, but Hornet karts were made this way for years- up through the very early 70's at least. Neat design. I know of others as well. I think the Kendrick enduros were that way as well. Then again, pretty much all karts are neat on some level! :)

The Rupp 1968 to 1970 fun cart was also of the dropped pan design. This cart shared the front axle, spindles. steering wheel. rear axle and bearings, wheels, brake and sprocket setup of the early Rupp Dart carts.

Phil,
Blitz and Lee Carts had dropped floor pan made of steel. Some models of Hovey had dropped pans made of aluminum, along with the Hornet, and Bonanza karts....Ed
