Hartman Manifold for Mac ?

This is a new one for me, never seen one before. I just got this manifold from a friend and realized that the IAME reed block and top for an HR fit right in. The manifold part says Hartman on it and I expect it was designed for using these parts and I am glad I had them laying around. I'm gonna give this a try on a 101 or 91.
Check out the pics.......
Anyone know how they performed?

Scott, they were pretty popular in Florida in Reed Open, and they ran very well. The IAME reed is among the best there is. I used to make my own 1/2" aluminum plates to adapt dual HL's. TJ

I have a couple of those Hartman manifolds as well. It is a good setup and allows the use of HR Tilly carbs and 34mm Mikunis for those who prefer them over the MAC carbs. They seem to perform real well.

Scott,
The Hartman dual carb intake was brought to market in 1975 and it was designed to have the carbs sit right on top of the reed cage without any kind of sub plate. The reed cage is the same as used in the Komet K55 of the same era and the design sure has stuck.... it is the same as is used on most of the TAG motors of modern day karting.
The single carb adapters from the current foreign motors will fit perfectly and you can even use the type that have cage stuffers built on to the bottom side to fill in the unneeded space in the cage.
I have one but have not run it because I know if I do the racing gods will choose that day for me to pitch a rod and split it in half LOL
It's the only one I have seen for many years so I will not risk wrecking it.
The reed open racers of the late 70s all chose it over the GEM v12 and other giant intakes so it must have worked well.

The reed cage is the "same" but it is "different" The hartman cage has a bridge so 2 HL carbs can sit right against the reed cage with no top plate. The IAME does not have a bridge.

The reed cage originated in the Hartman Reed Open manifold and did have the center rib cast in as Rob described so as to support a twin HL Tillotson carb setup -- the whole twin mac reed open setup also included a neat linkage arrangement so that one carb opened the other via a machined aluminum gear set.
Later, the cage was modified by IAME to be incorporated in to the first reed valve engine destined for the USA market, the Komet K55GHR which used a single Tillotson HL184 gas carb.
G = bruno grana, the owner of IAME
H = hartman
R = russell, the iame importer

Yep, my Hartman dual carb manifold has the cage with the bridge. I'm kind of surprised they didn't make it have a pair of round holes rather than the square openings.... that carbs barely cover the corners of the square openings.

Gary,
Is the manifold itself being re-poped? Who is doing it?
That one on eBay won't work with those tops because of the original Hartman reed. The carb would be feeding into a flat surface. It would need an IAME reed block to work with the single tops.
