Welcome to the ol' guys club. We like new vintage karters.
As far as what to work on first, do the Rupp. There are reproductions parts for it. The Simplex would be a little more work.

Robert, if you're a "member" here, PM Jeff Troy. He's the Homelite Kart guru. He has restored both the live and dead axle versions of the kart. TJ

West Bends and Macs on eBay all the time. With a little paintwork and a shroud sticker, newer Macs can look properly vintage. 610 or 820 West Bends of later vintage look pretty much like ones from the early days, but don't buy the current "Copperhead" series if you want to run at Fremont (TBO). The Homelite KL/KR-82, 92 or KL-100's are harder to find, though they're very correct for the Spitfire kart. Look thru
http://www.acresinternet.com chain saw section for Homelite saws of the correct displacement that may be cloned into the KL/KR-82 and 82. There is no direct derivation for the KL-100, though there are saws like the 9-23 and 9-26 which are the right displacement and layout for karts. Remember that you'll have to dig much harder for Homelite parts. Surf this forum, as well as Vintage Karts and the VKA for engines and parts. Remember that the Homelites are 48 to 50 years old, so they won't just fall from the trees. TJ
