ok i took a chance.
there was a neat looking saw a clinton d50 handy that i picked up cheap.
it came as a package deal with a mc250 that i wanted.
looks like it could be run left r right and enough bits removed for a kart motor.

so is a clinton d50 a kart motor too?
if so about what cc or power does it have.

Dave, look it up on www.acresinternet.com in the chain saw section and find out. Mike Acres website is a rich source for saw information! TJ

Dave,

Looks like it is smaller than an E65 or A490 - 4.48cu
I probably have a piston and rings for it if you want to rebuild it.

Terry's correct, the D50 was the "smaller brother" to the larger D60, D65, D35 saw engines.

Steve,

The D35 block is almost exactly the same as the E65. The D35 has two holes drilled in the head to attach the shroud and that's about it.

Yes, you can put a D35 or E65 crank in an A490 block. In fact, the factory did this and called it a GK590. I have never seen a real one, but I have a parts list I got from an ex factory manager. One tricky thing is fitting a seal to the PTO side of the crank as it has a different diameter than the stock A490 crank. Also, the chainsaw piston has to be trimmed a bit to prevent interference with the head.

I have an A490 with this arrangement. I had it at TBO on a dead axle kart. I only got a few laps in, as I spun the rim in the tire and punctured the tube. Performance wise, it is very close to an E65. Unfortunately, I have no one to run against. It is hard enough to get a class of stock A490's going. Not too many guys are willing to modify an A490 to that extent.

I can send you a few articles if you are interested.
