I recently learned yet another trick from The Day.
My engine building coach, who's been racing since the dawn of kart engines, sometimes mounted the condenser outside the motor and tapped the lead onto the kill wire.
Now any condenser will do, regardless of physical size, as long as its value is close to the original ( . 20 to .30 MFD.
This is a big help if you run out of stock Mac ones and what you have on hand won't fit in the pocket, or you have something other than the Tecumseh that has the unique side barrel necessary for mounting in a Power Products.
Another plus is being able to disconnect the condenser without diving into the motor when troubleshooting.

Caretta used to market a mount made by Giant that mounted a large Mallory condenser externally on an Mc10 in place of the stock point box cover. The condenser clamped into place and could be changed out without taking off the box cover, though that was almost never necessary, as they lasted forever. The Mallory had a brass case and looked hot when it was polished up. The Harley crowd bought most of them up for their bikes. I screwed one of the box covers to the outside of the flywheel shroud on my B-Limited 101, and ran one of the Mallorys on that engine. I still have a couple of the condensers.
