stuck a 101...need some help...
Just posted over on vintagekarts.com....but figured I repost here...sorry for those who have already seen the post...
So I have only had the kart about 8 months and spent all winter troubleshooting and tuning my Invader with a MC101b...got luck on my first kart big time...now I'm spoiled...
Today we made it out to our new 'test track' and 10 min into it the rod shot through the block and stuffer etc...
so now I am left with a bunch of parts and carbs needing a new engine, or at least a block and piston assbly....
So I really don't know which way to go...part out the 101 and (huge swollow) get a 91 or even a kt100 to compete in some classes...or keep my pride and slavage the 101...
I absolutely loved that engine and am in the dumps since it popped...
Just looking for some guidance from those who have been there...
Thanks for reading....

Re: stuck a 101...need some help...
yea...i should have torn it all down when i got it...but everything looked so good and it ran great for a month now with a few minor issues...
but yea it sent the rod through the back of the enngine...the piston is toast but it slid out the top and the rings still have spring to them so i guess thats a plus....
i almost want to sell/trade what i have (and cash)for a complete motor...hopefully a mac
as far as helping...i am open to suggestions at this point...i really just want to get back to riding....
if you have anyt engines you would be willing to let go of i would be most greatful...or if you can hint me who to bug for parts and probably a block, piston and rod assembly...im pretty sure the crank is good and the rest is good...just really bummed out....let me know...
as always...thanks steve...

Remember this stuff is @ 40 years old. Were you running it down the road or on a straight that was wrong for it's gearing? I've had really good luck with my stuff. It takes knowledge & care to make it run. 91, 101 are the same to keep running but cost is a lot more for a 101. Yes you should have it rebuilt. Now it's to late..... this is what they call the cost of an education....... Blocks are hard to come by you will probably need another engine. 91's are cheap & there are a lot of them around..... but don't make the same mistake with it.

Chris- that was the most spectacular pathology of any motor that was ever seen. I feel your pain!
You deserve praise for your effort posting 26 pics with heavy heart so others might learn.
Was that a breakerless ignition? If so, maybe that should be looked into as a possible link in the Macs Last Run
I've learned that many heavy duty con rods have been made for the 101 over the years. This tells me that the stock 101 rod may not have been up to snuff. just lay one alongside a 91 rod and compare!
