Re: Mcculloch enigine on ebay
It has the covers that make it easy to build an MC-5 replica.
I just bought a 1-60 for that reason.

Re: Mcculloch enigine on ebay
Not so grasshopper... That is a D30 saw motor that had the center pull starter. The same parts were also used on the 1-40 and early 1-50 saws. Someone has chopped the shroud and sidecover down and improvised a cover up to look like a Mc 5. I doubt real seriously if they welded the magnesium. Looks like a bunch of JB weld, from the pics. The D30 came with only 4 intake and 2 exhaust ports drilled. If you look, an attempt of drilling the third intake port is not even close to where it is supposed to be. It does not appear to have the other port on back side drilled at all. The stuffer was actually part of the gas tank. The tank was chopped off far enough to leave what resembles a partial stuffer, which is not much more useful than a flat plate. That dirt bike pipe is somehow attached stuck over the end of stock original aluminum muffler. Do you know how to weld aluminum to a steel pipe? I do hope someone here is not buying or selling that motor. The buyer is going to be very disappointed.

From one Terry to another...
I didn't notice the hack job.
The 'pink' turned me off right away and my 1-60 should be here Monday.

Re: Mcculloch engine on ebay
So Terry,
You beat me out on that auction.....
That 1-60 has a tapered pto crank that can be used in a 49 and those very early Mc5 covers. Good find.
I think all the ports are drilled except for the 3rd ports.
I have snagged a couple of those on ebay in the past.
Have fun, my $40 250 is coming any day!

Re: Mcculloch engine on ebay
Since you are destroying a perfectly good saw to make just a kart motor, I may be interested in the complete gearbox assembly, bar, chain and gas cap. Well unless that saw has 404 chain instead of 1/2" like most gear reduction models. That can work too. At least 404 chain is still available new. I have several D44 saws that for some reason were robbed of vital parts. Instead of going to the scrap pile, I opted to ressurect them as Super 55's and keep alive to make fire wood. In case that motor needs some repair in the compression department, I might have a lead on some extremely rare single 1mm chrome ring pistons. Possibly even quicktime stroker pistons, in case you want to add a 91 crank and make a killer sleeper motor out of it.

Re: Mcculloch engine on ebay
TB,
You're making me feel bad!
I hate to destroy an old saw, but I think I can justify it by building a nice replica of an MC-5. I may use one of the early MC-6 blocks that have the MC5/MC6 stamping on them to make it as original as possible.
I prefer to build most of my engines as close to stock as possible.
Assuming I do cannibalize it, you are welcome to the saw parts if you just pay shipping. I did not get the bar and chain from the guy. Looked pretty rough and they were .404. I can give you his contact info if you want to see if he till has them.
PS - I have a Super 250 that I pull out for big trees. Nice saw.

Re: Mcculloch engine on ebay
Dear Mr. Kneisel,
Are you one of the bidders that drove the price up?
I thought about asking you if you were going to bid.
I'm done now - I just needed one MC-5 to complete my collection.
As far as I'm concerned, McCulloch only made 3 engines: MC-10, MC-5 and MC-6.

Re: Mcculloch engine on ebay
Hi Terry S,
hm you stole my saw i think!!!!
i was the second bidder at one dollar.
i was busy with snow so i never went back to rebid.
i was willing to go 200 so i guess for everyone else that was a good thing!!!
posting my interest on the forum has only led other people to what i found as often i find mis listing.
in a perfect wolrd though it's a nice idea.
anyway no harm no foul.
i'm sure in another three years or so another will pop up.
wah wah wah pooooor me
Terry B,
i have a stupid amount of murdered saw parts, and your posts are both valuable and informational .
what ever you need send shipping and i'll hook you up.
i have maybe 10 or 12 gearboxes among the pile and a big box of nos saw stuff that wants a home real bad.
send me a p.m. and i'll get you my contact info and we can chat.
also a neat job can be done on a d30 cover with a donor cover for parts a steady hand and jb weld.
real welding is a dicey proposition.
look in the past posts i put what i did up a while ago.
eventually i'll finish the job and rebuild my lone mc5.
Scott,
call me when you get a minute.
i have a motor dick Teal wants me to send to you.
i also have a dusty package of spark plugs i owe you.
the package is kinda oil soaked (long story) and i was debating buying more and just shipping straight to you.
dave
p.s. i wouldn't buy that ebay piece of $%(7 on a bet.
if you did bid do a withdrawal and say why.
