Rustoleum "Hard Hat" 2644 yellow

Post by ted johnson » Sat Jan 08, 2011 1:53 pm

Has anyone tried the Rustoleum Hard Hat aerosol spray? How well does it hold up compared with their regular paint line? The Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow looks pretty close to Mac paint, but chips off if you breathe on it. I use a RAL 1023 powdercoat color, and I hear the Hard Hat 2644 is "supposed" to be RAL 1023. Anybody tried it? I don't have the space or compressor to spray industrial or auto paint, but I DO want my stuff to look decent and to be durable. Thanks to the EPA, rattle can paint is generally crap compared to what it was in the sixties.

Ted,

If you buy the powder, I will glady coat anything that fits in a kitchen oven.
Actually, I took you suggestion and bought some RAL1023 - I just haven't tried it yet. I had to do some Hands wheels for my Brother and Nephew.

Terry, be aware that not all batches of a RAL color will match, and different manufacturer's colors are not always exact. The 101/Mc20 clone in RAL 1023 is very close to Mac yellow, but my Mc5 shroud which is also RAL 1023 is somewhat lighter. My coater in Albuquerque told me that it's happened to him before. I don't know the cure for this problem! Ted

We'll see what it looks like. I only bought a couple pounds, so I'm not too worried.
I need to get a custom blend for my yellow clintons.

Terry, do you have a source for custom powder colors? I make my own metallics and add mica to candy bases and topcoats to add "bling", but I didn't have a custom base color source. Ted

TJ
I get my powder from these guys:
http://www.powderbuythepound.com/home.php

They advertize custom colors, but I haven't done any yet.

Thanks! I'd looked at Powder Buy The Pound before, but I'd forgotten them. I use Caswell for the mica dust and glitter additives. T
