Karting Korner

I guess many of you that have compiled a collection of old karting magazines have read Jim Butlers Karting Korner. He was the resident technical director for Karting World from 1960 thru October 1962. When I was growing up in the late 70's, these magazines were obsolete and totally worn out already, but great reading for me. From the time I talked my dad out of them when I was 13 till I graduated high school they were always being thumbed thru. I was more versed on the early stuff than familar with current events at the local track. In 1978 I bought a nice used Margay Concept that was in great shape. So the homemade kart I built at 14 was retired. I raced the Concept for a while and then was replaced with my first new kart. It was a 79 Bug Wasp. So to pay for it I put the Concept up for sale. Only one serious phone call and buyer. A man showed up with his son and were going to start racing. He introduced himself as Diego Bulter. I think his son was Jeff and around 16 years old. He told me they had been motocrossing and decided to try kart racing. He told me he used to be involved in karting back in the early 60's and wrote for a magzine when he lived in southern California. I was totally blown away at the time to find out he was the Jim Butler from Karting World. Especially since I was living in Dallas. In 1980 he was living just north of Dallas and had a fiberglass buisness. He also came out with some really nice fiberglass products for karts at the time. One item I remember was a replacement seat for a Margay Concept that had built in number panels moulded in on both sides of the seat. There were a bunch of them showing up locally on different karts for several years. If memory serves me right his son won the state sprint series in one of the Yamaha classes on that kart in 1980. The last time I talked with him they were going to go back to racing motorcycles again. But that was around 1982. Just curious if anyone had been in contact with him or if still among the living.
