FYI - Gus is now working through another tire manufacturer for all the Vintage Speed tires. He is now making several vintage style front tires, including one for 4" wheels

As for acceptability at the TBO in 2011, Rob Voska will need to review and comment on these new tires.

Vintage Speed Tires available for 2011: 3.50/4.50-4 / 11x3.50-5 / 11x4.50-5 / 11x6.00-5

Hi Jeff and Gary,

HOPEFULLY I"LL SURVIVE MAKING COMMENTS!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

i'll risk jumping in here because it would be awesome if we finally have a tire that is easy to get that'll work with the old karts safely.
i hope they are the square edged tire.
we were thinking that the rounded edge might be part of the grip problem that was encountered before.
Hopefully the rubber formula will be old school too because the new stuff even when it's hard still grabs.

Personally i will listen to what Rob has to say if he's willing to comment.
I think it would be awesome if Robs willing to test them.
maybe Gus can send Rob a set and we could wait for results.

i would be willing to start a fund to buy a test set for Rob if a free sample test set can't be sent.

i hope they're what we need as the chen sings seem to be all over the place in availability and quality.

We will need to see & test before making any decisions. Square corner is one part but I think a bigger part is sidewall design. A soft sidewall will roll. It's hard to go backwards in technology when the whole point of "racing" is going faster. Unfortunatly it makes these old, narrow, high center of gravity, karts unsafe.

The tires on the website that the link takes you to shows the Duro Vintage Speed tires. Gus is no longer making the Duro line of Vintage Speed with the exception of the 4.10x3.50-5 and the 10x4.50-5 which is a soft tire (55 durometer). Gus has gone to a new tire manufacture for his Vintage Speed tires and he should have all sizes available by the first of April. You can contact Gus @ arrowracing@terragon.com for more information. Gus is working to update his website. The new 4.10-3.50-4 tire is a copy of the Carlisle tire and works the same as the 4 inch Cheng Shin tire when we tested the tires. No performance difference, but it looks correct, height and width is proper.. The 11x600-5 is available now and is a copy of the Good Year Blue Streak as will the other sizes that Jeff mentions.

Gary, the tire rule that was passed for 2012 VKA events covers a lot of different tire manufactures.

I tried to post pictures of the 4 inch and 11x600-5 but it says the board attachment quota has been reached.

David, Rob....

My point exactly...buying two sets of tires for a number of karts gets expensive and frustrating ...when you go to a ""fun day ""event (not TBO, thats cut and dried) and they frown on newer style tires....I don't have a problem either way...would just like to see some consistency....

Just like the senior class..(damn gettin old)...building a Chaparall with a single 45 I installed old style tires and now find out (most) all others are running sl4s....oh shit, it looks so good with skinnies I may just keep em on there anyhow....

thanks
Gary

Gus is in Portland picking up the 4.10-3.50-4 tires as I type this out. He will be back home on Friday.
Pictures of the 4.10-3.50-4 and 11x600-5 are on the VKA site.

Hey Gary, and others,
If you are coming to Avon, you might as well leave the skinny tires on, we have basically instituted the 2012 VKA tire rules for this year's event. You are gonna need them at all VKA events next year anyway.
