back in the day, our engines were ikf-wka legal, but some of our practice engines were ??? question, on 100cc mac, when the crank moves side to side, . my mag plate is used but no cracks, crank is good..a new bearing 'almost' slides in the mag plate...who has the idea out there to stabize the side movement on the crank..not looking for total performance, just want to put the engine back together

Mine float but you could use Green Loctite. It's for bearing mounting.

The Loctite will make it feel good until you start it up but the stuff will not hold up to the pounding for very long.
If you want the side plates fixed right Pete Muller has built the tooling to hold the parts properly so they can have the bearing pocket bored, sleeved and re-bored to correct size. Getting them fixed one at a time is expensive. To get the price down to a reasonable level Pete needs to do a bunch of them all at one time.
Let's get a list together to see how many we could send to Pete for a batch job.
If you're interested in having the repairs done post here telling me how many you want fixed and how much you would be willing to pay so we can can get a count going. I'll review with Pete and see what he would charge for a production run.

I have ten that need fixing. Some are cracked also.

i just buy junk or cheap mcculloch saws with the same inner.
mcculloch made millions of the saws and most are undisturbed.
usually i'll spenf 30-40 $ .
also get a spare outer cover,points cover, flywheel,coil and on many, useful connecting rods.
as these saws wiegh in at 20 pounds theres also scrap value or parts resale to recoup your investment

If they are cracked re-sleeving won't fix the problem and welding is not an option either at least on the few that I have tried to weld... the material is just to crappy to weld.
How many do you have that are just worn but not cracked?

I think there are a lot of the parts sitting on shelves that are in good shape with good paint and stickers but the bearings have spun and worn the pockets. Re-sleeving can repair the bearing bore and save the part as well as eliminate the time and cost needed to clean, primer and paint and then find a new sticker.
I've used a few off saws too and they are always good on the bearing bore.... seems to be a karting use problem with the bearing bore wear.

Pete recently developed the tooling to do these repairs on the side plates for a couple of Mc-7 side covers at my request. I have reassembled and run one of the engines and it works perfectly. Pete's work is always the finest quality, He has done work for many of us that build modern engines for years, and he is the best. I was not aware that he was ready to do them in large numbers, as he had indicated to me as Steve mentioned that it was time consuming and pricey to do in small quantities, and was not in a position to accomodate others when we last spoke. By all means if you want a repair to make a side cover like new, or better, then by all means send them to Pete.

i thank all who replied and the interest shown. i have just have the one inner plate and nxt summer will go on my panther. ithought there was a washer that was 'kinda' avail the went between the crank and pto bronze bushing. i remember my dad taking a punch and hammer and 'shotpeening' the inner race hence creating a disturbed area. then he heated up, bearing did have resistance when pressed in with red locktie. don't remember how long it lasted. was a quick fix but i really thought there was a washer out there. thanks agn--butxh
