mc 1

Post by david a luciani » Mon Nov 08, 2010 4:31 pm

Hi Guys,

last year at TBO i was talking about motors with some of the guys.
The subject of rare motors came up and mc1 was considered a hard one to find.
more or less impossible.
i have a partial but a complete one i guess is pretty impossible to get.
being a big mouth i allowed that i am pretty good at finding stuff and would sooner or later find one.
i was told in no uncertain terms that was something that would take years if ever!!!
later when i checked the motor history out i was pretty sure that i'd taken on a bit more than was possible.
i do agree that finding one of these is a crapshoot the guys were totally right about that.

But, bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha :D
i am a lucky s.o.b.
;)

sorry but i just had to try being a jerk not toooo fun.
anywaaaay here is a good example of a mc1

dave

p.s. it's for sale as it's a shelf queen that deserves a good home with other shelf queens.

Dave,

You need to keep the engine because some day you'll have shelf queens also and it would look good. You'll never sell all the stuff you have so you might as well start working on finding a place for that shelf now. Maybe the little woman will let you have them in the house. Mine agreed to a museum as long as it's in my lower half of the house.

The other thing I've found is that you can only run them one at a time.

You've got plenty of 10's, at least one 6 so start looking for a 5 and a 2 next.

wellllll,

i have more than plenty of tens i have too many about 10 that will be complete with another 5 or 6 that need some parts .
put it down as being too far in the moment.
as soon as i get time i'll finish the last bunch and put some up for sale.
anyone wanting one should be ready to spend more than a nickel though.

i do have a mc5 and maybe a mc2 not sure about that one.
i'm debating on a full paint restore or rebuilding it as found.
though i do have almost every kart block by mcculloch ,shelf queens are far in my future.
i may regret it later but if i need another mc1 i'll need to get double lucky.

i am selling off a bunch of the motors as i finish rebuilding them so others can run their karts too.
also need to fund sand blasting and paint work the frames need.
at this point my nebulous plan seems to be full builds with era correct motors.
i may have some fun with the paint though as i'm a little out there on that.

anyway it's a neat motor.
now some questions for the serious mcculloch expert.
i have a mc1 with a tapered shaft (partial) and a mc1 with a straight shaft.
were they offered either way?
thanx
dave

Hi Dave,
In case you don't have it, attached is the IPL for the Mc1.

It shows a tapered PTO with a crank # 48939 but I can't find that crank for any of the other Mac products. Maybe it was a unique crank for the bushing rod.

I can't even find what the cc is for an Mc1. I am guessing 80cc and from your pics, it looks like all the intake ports are not drilled. Sort of like a Mac15 block.

I have never seen one in the flesh so I am pretty clueless.
Good luck finding info, hopefully some Mac experts in the know will chime in here.
Nice find,
Scott

Scott, Mc-1s are 5.3 cubic inch. Same bore and stroke as Mc-5. Compression is 5 to 1. They use a Whalbro racing type float carb with an adjustable hi speed mixture. The port timing is the same as the Mc-6. Since it is a bushing engine the fuel-oil mixture is extremely rich, 8-1.

hi guys,
a few people have expressed interest in purchasing this motor.
i am probably gonna sell it but first i want to get some pix and so forth.
i am not blowing anyone off or making a deal without giving everyone interested a shot at making an offer.
And i am not trying to drive up the price.
i just do things at my pace which my dad used to comment was only slow or reverse.
so please be patient.

Worst case i'll stick it on esteal to keep things fair if i think that's needed.
right now i'm just getting info.

it does look like it's never been disturbed but the carb is not right .
also Both Lyns and my partial mc1 have tapered cranks.
this one may be slightly different or not as original as it seems.
anyway please keep info such as it is coming as i'm compiling it.
