TBO is coming!

Post by ted johnson » Sat Aug 28, 2010 11:09 am

TBO is next week! I can't wait to see all the good people and the beautiful karts! I've already got the gear staged out in the garage, ready to load in the van Tuesday. Ron C. will be here tomorrow to sleep on the living room floor, on his way East. A GREAT BIG "Thank You!" to Bob Kurkowski and Rob Voska for hosting the best vintage event in the country. Hope our karts run, and the starter works right, but, even if they don't, we'll have a good time. See y'all there! Ted J. :D

Ted,

I'm in the final stages of getting ready. The karts are already in the trailer and tied down & the starter is charged. I will put the charger on the battery one more time just before we leave. It will be available if you & Charlie need it.

I need to get Cubel's kart and other stuff from Joel. I feel like a shipping company.

I need to organize my Mc49 stuff so I can get some good development time at the track. Things like extra clutches, manifolds and carbs so I can work on getting better low end. I need about 7,000 or higher engagement out the clutch or more slip till about there or above if possible. We run dry clutches in the 49 class with box mufflers. If I lost about 30 or 40 pounds it would do the same but that will not happen any time soon.

I need to get all of my parts and hardware trays loaded and should finish that up today. Then I need to finish the display for the Fox Mak-Kart. I have a lot of history, pictures, magazine articles from back then and other stuff related to the kart and the time. You'll be able to see them on Saturday night.

The laptop is ready but I need to get the traveling printer/scanner ready just in case I get somebody that has found early Fox literature that I don't have. I also need to charge the batteries on my camera and my helmet video camera.

This has turned into a good to do list; see you and others soon. We'll be there Thursday afternoon; Ron said that he would be there about 7:00pm so I guess we can meet in the bar to talk. Rob posted that the bar will be open this year; hopefully they've got the kitchen open also.

Dick

Hey, Dick! Looking forward to seeing you Friday. Charlie meets me in Washington, IL Thursday, and we go East from there in his Ford. We'll see you Friday afternoon at the track, and Friday evening in the bar. Charlie and I will bring one kart frame back here for Ron so that it'll be easier on him. He's got enough stuff to manage, and he'll have quite a lot of my things to take West from here on his return trip. The Mac 35 starter had a starter spring issue yesterday, and most of my tools are packed up, so the local saw/mower shop is rectifying it. I hope it'll stay in one piece: they say it's working fine! What I need to do is build a starter from scratch with a 610 or 820 like Stan Wauthier's units. Just an engine with a recoil, belt clutch and handle unit. We'll see everyone soon! Ted

I'm ready and excited about coming. I may come up Thursday and stay an extra night. It's only about a 6 hour drive for me.
I am just bringing my '63 Grand Prix and my little car so I can't bring a lot of stuff. I am bringing 10 engines, 4 for myself and 6 that I built for other guys. I built up a real neat Mc5 to run with Ted next year when his is ready. I tried to start it the other day but it just pops so I think it has a bad condenser. I am not gonna try to get that going, I will just display it Saturday night. I am bringing my hopped up Mc6 that I ran last year with a few improvements, my wife's trusty Mc49 and my Mc8. The 49 is already on the kart ready to go so that will get the first track time.
See you guys at the track Friday afternoon for sure, maybe at the bar Thursday night.
Scott

Lookin' forward to seeing Scott and Chris! I picked up the Mac 35 starter a couple hours ago. The saw shop had to fix the recoil spring. This should be a fun weekend. Next year I'll have the Wasp/Mc5 to run with Scott, Jeff and the rest. Maybe we ought to get up a Mc5 parade! ;) Ted

Any chance of getting comments added to the pictures this year. Not so much to identify the karts, but the people? So many members have been so helpful, I would like to know what they look like.

Dominic sorry but we put the event on 100% by ourselves & we are streached pretty thin with the size of the crowd we get. Even I don't know lots of names. It gets bad when someone has been there 2-3 years and they call and tell me oh yea I've been there X times and I don't have a clue who they are. But if they tell me what kind of kart they have I usually remember it! Selective memory I guess.

But your welcome to come also & take as many pictures as you want. If you have the time & energy I have a great idea that we have tried to do a few years but never seem to get the time. There is some of the best restored karts in the world that show up and the attention to detail guys are putting in is just incredible.
