Avon Show Winners

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the nice compliments on the Avon event. I had a lot of help. Many thanks to the GVKC gang, our president Bill Glitch for his help, John Salsbury and family for their enormous help on Saturday and especially Al Gutberlet who was a one man show on Friday and thru the weekend signing folks in and answering a million questions, helping with the facilities, etc, etc. Al is the track owner and a long time kart racer from the 60's up to just a few years ago. I managed to get him in my R1 and Chris Marchland's hot Chaparral. That man can still drive I'll tell ya!!
I also want to thank Chris Marchland and Mike Schlager for their help and encouragement for putting on the event along with Mike D'elia and Rich Engel for hanging around Sunday and joining me in a pretty cool race heat to show the modern karters the roots of karting. We received a big applause after our race and it was a blast. Best of all we generated lots of vintage interest during the weekend.
Jeff Campbell will be posting photos as the come in and I will do a more thorough write up of the weekend in the near future. For now here are pics of the 4 class winners in the show. Makes me drool, that is for sure. There were many beautiful karts there.
Historic- John Swartout's beautiful Simplex
Single Rear - Vic Bent and his untouched R200 in completely original condition
Dual Rear - Mike Schlagger's excellent Chaparral Enduro, what a beauty
Sidewinder - Chris Marchlands gleaming NOS Rupp Mean Machine
Just a note...Judges for the show were Dave Lucianni form Mass. and Terry Armstrong from SC
There were some tough decisions for them to make. Thanks so much Dave and Terry.
Here are the pics, More later Sidewinder Pic in the next post
