i was bad and bought another kart today.
but it was priced very nicely and it runs.
first running vintage kart i ever bought.

anyway am debating about the extra metal.
kinda torn and may just leave it as found.
the added disk brake is marginal but works well and i rarely use a brake anyway.
besides the original brakes which can with it ain't much to write home about either.

i am open to opinions on this one.
so leave it as found or restore?

'leave as found'. then buy that chiliton gas tank out in calif for $450.00 and you'd be set. hope for free shipping.....although we(my kid and i) have 2 karts that we put back together, if we were to come across a kart like this, we would 'leave as found', even the decals. many-many years ago when he was young, we spk of keeping everything we ever owned in karting. have a 'museum'. you have all ready started one, i would think with all the equipment you have, some would require restoring, some 'leave as found'. all is a compilment to you. vintage is to be fun and finding some of these great deals is all part of. i'm looking at a $100.00 margay panther (no engine but a roller) the end of month if still avail and i'm telling you vintage karting here in sw fla is sparse although i have heard from some really good people recently. sooner or later. i'm gonna find that 'barn' down here in fla

i love the decals they stay no matter what.
the clinton is uber cool with it's hand painted flame job .
i would freak out if that was damaged fixing the engine.

the most i'm planning is a new fresh chain and maybe fixing the brake a little better.
the tank i probably will mount to the spare motor mount location and i'm replacing the fuel line.
might even keep the old school fuel gauge it has.
the tire in the driver front is beat and ready to pop.
still grabs as much as it ever did but i have a set of mint recapped generals the exact right size so they'll be installed.

took a chance since the motor seemed perfect and gave it a try.
the mc49c runs perfect and fired on the first pull with a capful of fuel down the carby.
wouldn't pull fuel but after wetting the carb gaskets it it pulled gas and fired up.
carb is immaculate inside no dried gas or grunge at all.
let it run soft for a bit but the motor was mint.

runs like a r@pped ape, ran it about 1 hour around my neighborhood blew out 1 gallon of fuel.
was actually surprised how fast the mc49c goes even compared to a mc91.
for a 1959 it handles really great not surprised that they were hard to catch.
it drives alot like my gk1200 , it breaks loose about the same and rear steers excellent.

the main difference is i can get this one to 180 on a dime and the gk takes a bit more area to do that.
pushed it hard and really had to rack it around hard at about mid/top speed to get it to spin out.
and control came back about 360 though a couple of times i backpedaled a little.
needless to say i was doing my best to kill myself in a kart again and had blast.

the motor is nearly new the seller told me he bought it in 1970.
he gave me all the paperwork and said it had maybe 30 hrs yard cart time on it.

anyway my sweetie got wind of it and i'm in BIG trouble.
seems the fellow called her house to see when i was coming over.
i'd given him that number because my sim card went bad in the cell.
anyway lots of something about blowing off work and buying another $%^&* kart!!!!
knew my luck wouldn't last.

Could be a Dart Super K, similar to the one John S. owns except yours is the dead axle version. His is live and will have an Mc5 on it at Avon which will probably run with the Mc49 just fine so bring it if you have room. I may have an Mc5 powered kart there also and for sure will have one at TBO this year.

Maybe John can post a couple pix of his Super K!!! How about it John?

It didn't come with a Chilton tank but had a tubular aluminum tank that ran between the frame rails as either standard or an upgrade, I'm not sure. Nice set up

We are thinking of having an all Rupp event next year at Avon, I think that would be neat, what do you think?

i think that's a cool idea.
but i'd need to clone myself to get everything done on my other Rupps.
have an 1960 that the replaced front axle still isn't welded in yet.
the other rupps all need framework but my new toy will be there.

don't know anything about that rupp except it's a nice handler.
ANYone with info please pipe up as i would like it i.ded.
before work today we fired it up and probably pissed off a neighbor or two but the guys wanted to hear it go.
we were a little late to the job site.

this is margay year i guess.
borrowed a pair of spindles that should fit the new breed sidewinder so it may make Avon yet.
the originals are mia in the mail i'm told.
the cheetah is having birthing pains but hopefully will go together faster and be done by wendsday or so.

so far i'm bringing the new rupp ,the gk1200 and with luck the new breed sidewinder and cheetah left.
hopefully i'll be able to squeeze in the gilson for display.
i think pretty soon i need to find a trailer.

i'm thinking the extra rear tubes can be removed with little or no paint damage.
so they're probably toast soon.

the brakes are kinda strange they have a manual disk set up on the second sprocket.
have the originals that rubbed the side of the sprockets were they any good?

i'm mounting the tank on the second engine perch for now replacing the petcock and gas line.
replacing throttle cable set up is not too good.
gonna pull the clutch and inspect seems to slip.
replace the chain .
replace front tires with vintage same and drill front and reasr for cotter keys so i can run it.
wash kart and wax.
wash engine.

that's all dave
