was looking at this kart and was thinking that it might have been a modified gk400 with added live axle.
then i saw the steering wheel and decided to post it
regardless this is a classic i wouldn't change a thing.

Hmmmm shame nobody has replied, this is a very interesting looking kart. I am very interested in the Go Karts, could you post a link to that action as I would like to save it for later reference.
If it is a Go Kart 400, it is seriosly modified. What I am about to say is based on my limeted knowlage that may or may not be correct.
The gk400 had the front axle tube connecting to the centre of the spindle brackets, if this is a 400 the front has been dropped in hight as they connect toward the bottom
Also the spindles themselves aren't like the 400, as the 400, I believe even the C didn't have ackerman angle, also the lincage was infront of the axle and not behind.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the 400b/c had padle brakes (if this is a gk it must be a B or C since it has the side pads on the seats)
Also notice the side rails, the 400 kicked up starting about 2" behind the seat, this doesn't seem to at all, although that part is hard to see in these pictures, though maybe the seat was moved forward since the pedals would have been moved forward quite a lot.
This would explain the reason the steering wheel is angled like a school bus, since the steering loop would also have had to be moved forward.
The side rails even seem to taper in like the 400, and the seat and steering hoops seem to have the same form as the 400. The front spindle welds don't look perfect
so quite posibly they have been changed, and it does have the GK bits on it
Quite an interesting find there Dave, certainly a nice kart, I don't personaly think it is a 400, if it is somebody has gone to a lot of trouble
Actualy where in the world is it? it could be an inglish made kart, especialy with the steering colum angle (the english seem to like them like that, have you ever driven a mini,morris minor, wolsley etc?)
I hope somebody can steep in with some more info as my knowlage on karts is limeted
