You might be able to get them at ARP. They make very high quality hardware for racing applications. They're located in Santa Paula, Ca. If its isn't in the catalog, call them. I've been told by friends that they occasionally have items not shown.

ARP doesnt have the 12-36 bolts but will make two of them for $900.00 Mostly Engineering setup costs.

Could the rod be sucessfully re-threaded to 12-32 thread??????

You cannot rethread to 12-32. It would certaimly remove a good portion of the existing threads. I looked at the 12-36's in Machinery's Handbook. It's a UNS thread, and I couldn't find them at any of Sandia's suppliers. I think you're stuck with finding old Hyprode bolts. Ted

Hello Bob,

I have never done this so I admit it is not easy, but you might have a tool maker friend who could make it easy.

cut a blank from say 4140 ph
ruf machine ID undersize by .020" and OD .001" oversize on the OD with great finish
split the bushing similar to original in photos supplied by online posting advice you may have to make two ruf bushings to end up with two mating parts
assemble the mating parts in a bore same as rod
remachine the ID .005" undersize polish or finish all mating surfaces B4 final cut
Heat treat Rc 60
reassemble and hone/polish to size
you may want to hone a few tenths out of the original aluminium rod hence the .001" over for OD

A tool maker will probably see the errors in this plan but they are the right people for a job like this.

The Hyprode "Hot Rod" sold for $17.50 (!!!!) in the early 60's and was a very, very strong rod. :) Never had a single problem with one, though I did rip a wrist pin out of an over-lightened piston and blew that rod and very fast Hyprode 8-ported Mc9 engine. :o Lubed wrist pin should be put in freezer for 15-20 minutes before pressing back into rod and be very careful when turning-in rod bolts! Hyprode torque wrench for tightening bolts is essential to the process. Don't and you risk breaking bolts or blowing rod.

I have 4 of these rods for sale. One Cantalever style and the other three standard style. You can see pics of the styles by clicking on my previous post on page 2 of this thread.
