i happened to have a conversation with someone.
the idea of making a new issue of margay star rim halves and rams horn pipes came up.
this person is well aware of current ebay prices and such.
his concerns about reproducing the rims and pipe is about quantity and damaged value to n.o.s. vintage parts that are already out there.
these parts would be of the original dies and would be exactly the same as surviving new old stock parts.

so i was agreed to post a few questions.
first if they were produced would anyone have a problem with something stamped on the new parts to preserve the integrity of the n.o.s. parts?
would those people wanting the new parts be willing to put the money up in a escrow fund pre-production to guaranty a set amount of sales to fund tooling set up costs?

finally pricing:
would $400 for a brand new rams horn pipe off the original dies to original factory specs be a price you'd be willing to pay?

For the star rim halves is $25 per rim half a price you'd be willing to pay?

These questions are not in any way something i'll have any direct involvement in other than obtaining answers for an interested party.
There is no promise implied or otherwise that this will actually happen but the interested party would like an idea of product demand.
I suppose the possibility of new parts will or won't move forward depending on the answers to these questions.

Marking the parts in some discreet place would be the best way to help prevent fraud. Visually indistinguishable from the original but identifiable as a reproduction part. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous folks started selling Vince's reproduction manifolds as NOS. Now we've got the JSJ line of speed products....

The highest price I've seen for NOS ram's horns was a 2-3 years back when a pair went for $1,000 or $500 a pipe. With that in mind, $400 for a re-pop seems a little high, but not unreasonable for a time/effort/materials to do a low production run. Would the pipes be set up for the original factory mount or some other configuration? If you are going for the factory set up, any plans to reproduce the mounting brackets? Never seen or heard of them being sold, uber, uber rare probably rarer than the pipes themselves.

Perfect rim halves for $25 seems like a fair price. I would concentrate on the three narrow widths 1", 1.5" & 2" and forget the rest. With those 3 widths you can cover the majority of karts from '67-'75

Dan,

as i said it won't be me that uses the original factory dies to remake the parts.
in fact i won't get a thing if this happens , except the ability to buy new parts i want!!!
parts that except for something like a date stamp will be exactly the same as original made with the original parts etc. etc.

as far as the pipes go what i believe this party said was a complete rams horn set up.
since i've never seen a complete set up i don't know what that means.
if the mounts came with them originally i imagine they'd be included.
to me that's the high side but what are they worth? and will people pay?
that's what i was asked ,with no promises for production, to find out.

on ebay this one went up to $404 with the reserve not met # 320491911885
i don't know if there's only a few people out there that want them or what but so far i haven't seen any one express any interest.

So i'd have to agree with him there's alot of talk but not much cash money in sight.
so if you guys want these parts available you need to speak up !!!!
just trying to help here
