Tire/wheel question

Post by Steve Bailey » Tue Feb 02, 2010 3:01 pm

An Azusa tri-star 6" wheel is 4 inches wide. Do they work with 410 x 350 x 6 tires which are 3.5" wide, or is there a better alternative? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If this is for an early kart up to about 64-5 that is just what they ran it works fine....ron

It's for a '61 Go Kart 800 I just finished restoring. Will the wider wheel shorten the normal tire height somewhat?
Thanks

Hi, Steve. The '61 GK 800 came with 5" rears instead of 6" They had the early style Azusa wheels, not Tri Stars. This said, the 6" Tri Stars are certainly era correct as after market replacements. Ted

I have the original 5" Azusa rears and the 4" Azusa fronts, which I have powder coated silver and save for showtime. The tri-stars are for driving the kart for fun which I'm doing with a pair of US 820's. Duffy Livingstone sent me a reprint copy of a Karting World road test of the 800. The specs listed on the report (early 1961) show 4" front and 6" rears. I also have some press photos that Duffy sent me which show 5" rears as well as 6's in back. I'm just after a look with smaller tires in front than back, and I can't find any 4" tri-stars.
Thanks

Hi, Steve. We sold 800's and 1200's from mid '61 thru late '62. I never saw either kart with other than 4" fronts and 5" rears, but, GoKart and Bug were notorious for shipping karts with non-standard stuff on them! Of course, as soon as we took posession nof a new rig, the Azusas would come off and be sold, and we'd replace them with Go Powers or CT Alloys! I have a picture of the highly modified Bug belonging to the kid across the street from us. It has the Azusas on it from my GK 800. I don't remember seeing another Bug with Azusas back in the day! hi steve,

i don't want to monkey up your build but if you want a pair of tri star 4" which azusa says they never made.
i'd bought them for the gk800's but i got lucky and found another correct set so don't really need to be greedy.
since they'll be going on a gk800 i'll sell you a set if you want them
p.m. me if you are interested.
