Well, last night the GVKC (Genesee Valley Kart Club) approved a vintage event for 2010 for their track at Avon NY, just south of Rochester. The event is outlined as follows with more detail as the sub-committee plans the event:
Event Date:
July 30, 31 for all vintage and Aug 1 as a mixed event with modern karts (optional)
Event type: (proposed)
July 30 & 31 to be structured open track time by class.
Aug 01 to be some kind of vintage demonstrations during the modern race day as an option for those who want to stick around.
Class Structure: (proposed)
Historical (1961 and older karts and engines)
Vintage single (1975 and older rear engine karts with fan cooled engines, 100-135cc)
Vintage dual (1975 and older rear engine karts with fan cooled engines up to 135cc ea)
Vintage Sidewinder (1976 and older single side engine karts with same period engines)
Other features considered (details to be worked out)
Kart show
Gathering, picnic, dinner, something like that.
Swap Meet
The GVKC club board decided to make this an un-affiliated event to “get their feet wet” in vintage. If it goes well they would consider this an annual event possible with affiliation to a vintage organization.
Since this will be a club level event, I am hoping that details will be posted on the club’s website at http://www.gvkc.org. This may take awhile, contact me for details, sign-up info, etc
GVKC is a great organization who want to increase interest in karting and the roots of karting and at the same time make it affordable. Expect the cost of this event to be very reasonable.
This is a great opportunity for the northeast (and all) in vintage karting, lets take full advantage of it.
