Hey fellow vintage lovers,
A guy I know has this kart, I am helping him get the bender running but he doesn't know what kind of kart this started out as and neither do I. I thought maybe a Blitz but I am not sure. Has some nice Nylight wheels and a Chilton tank but that is all I recognize. We would appreciate any help here.

Thanks in advance.,
Scott

Hi Scott-
Looks very similar to a '60 Bug Wasp. I believe the original brake mount was set-up for the elongated Palmini hydraulic brake and that is why it is so far from the axle. Obviously, the front porch and rear-steering wasn't stock....
Check to see if there are any serial numbers on the drivers left side seat rail, some of karts had serial numbers up until '62/'63.

I found it,
It is a 1962 Bug Fly excepting the add-ons of course.
I found it in a 1962 Bug catalog on the vintage archives site.

Thanks Dan for your help, you got me on the right track.

Hey Scott-
That's funny, I initially thought the same thing, but the Fly doesn't have gussets on the seat back like your buddies kart. I think they stopped adding gussets to the seat back in '60 or '61 and then went to the squared seat back shape on the '63 Wasp which carried over into the later Bug Sprint.

Check the pictures in the Hot Rod review of the '60 Wasp:

Always happy to help, glad folks are utilizing the Archives Site, that was the primary goal was to build an online resource for identifying and preserving karting history.

Dan
