Bearing help

Post by ted johnson » Fri Jul 24, 2009 10:33 am

Thanks to Frank Payne and Louie Figone, I found out a lot more about the Homelite KL-100 P.T.O. bearing. It's a dual row SHIELDED unit rather than the single row SEALED unit I thought it was (it's still on the crank, and I couldn't see inside it) :? . Same outside diameter as the 6203 metric ball that Mac uses, but the bore is about .721 rather than the standard .6693 on the Mac. Frank had a bearing "bored" out to fit his crank, but the fellow who did it is retired. Does anyone know of a shop that'll take the 5203 double row bearing I just ordered and increase the bore to press fit lightly on my crank? I actually ordered two units, and I'd like to have them both done. Thanks, and many thanks to Frank and Louie. Ted

Found a local shop that specializes in I.D. and O.D. grinding. They'll do the ball bearings, and will do the seal area on the crank in the event I can't find the right seal for the existing O.D. Nice to find good mom and pop shops! Ted
