Stainless polishing

Post by ted johnson » Tue Jul 14, 2009 7:39 am

Charlie and I had our new Swoopster rear bumpers made of 304 mill finish stainless steel tubing. Joel Christians in Wisconsin bent and welded them and did a beautiful job. I had them electropolished here in Albuquerque, and the finish is as good as chrome with zero mechanical effort. The total cost was less than having steel chromed and polished, and they'll never pit or rust. Other alloys can be electropolished as well, though I don't know how the results would compare. Carbon steel will electropolish, and can then be clear powder coated. Just a thought. Environmentally friendlier than chroming, too. Hmmmm, you could do a whole chassis with no embrittlement worries... TJ
