The differences between L/H and R/H benders

Would i be correct in assuming the the only difference between the left hand and right hand US 820's is the flywheel and it's keyway position or could you use a counterclockwise engine and just add a clockwise flywheel ..... or is the crankshaft cam lobe different for the points activation.

Point cam is different.

Well thanks Rob

Looks as if i'll have to get a left hand flywheel and do my electronic ignition conversion using the Ryobi module as i have another extreme build in the thought process i'm going to mount two Copperheads together like i did my twin 101 and i'm sure a centre drive clutch and chain drive will help in the handling and balance department.

McB, when you couple these motors do you have the pistons firing 180 degrees apart? I ask because if they are firing both at the same time why not use one ignition source, use a flywheel, but no ignition on one of the engines? Two coils/ign mounted to one motor? Tom

Na both engines will be independant only coupled by two clutches like in my Twin Mac 101 plus i haven't seen a twin coil that would do what you are talking about and by using two clutches there's less chance of breaking cranks as i believe when you run a solid coupling thats the hassle you face even though you can then sync the two engines it's food for thought though i think i recall having that conversation with Gordon Daux sometime back.

This saw if setup the way i have in mind will have the left hand engine carrying the oil tank which is also the bar and chain mount so it will be a centre drive Twin thereby helping with good balance and easier better control.

I have done a mockup on my kitchen table ( no missus to interferr ) and i'm pretty certain it will work.

It's early days yet as i'm sure i have sold my Twin Mac 101 so now i have to build another more powerful beast cant have him thinking he's got the best !!!!

Put a new keyway in a std flywheel. Magnets will need re-zapped to change north, south poles.
