What do I have ???

Post by Kevin Frey » Tue Mar 24, 2009 8:33 pm

I have a Bug Wasp and I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out what it is. It is newer than some of the older pictures I have seen with a disc brake caliper on the rear axle. It's been hanging on my wall for years and now I'm curiose about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Mid 70s Bug Wasp... a good vintage kart for most organizations but not REAR.... it's a sidewinder type chassis and REAR is all about rear engine american built chassis from the early days of karting in the USA
Suitable for running in just about any other vintage karting events around the country.

That's what I said, the chrome is in excellent condition as well. Does anybody know what would be a period correct motor? I know where the motor is that came with it, I just dont know if that was what should have been on it.

It's not a real early Wasp. It's the later one they called the "Works Wasp". The lower front bumpers were different. I had an early one I ran in B Limited in the Florida street race series 1975-1977. I liked the kart well, after I got the tire combo right. A nice Mc91B1 or 92 would be about the right age. I ran mine for a while in 100cc Open with an LMR...which my Wisconsin buddy still has... Nice kart; good luck! Ted

Ok the motor is still over at a buddies house. He went out and looked at the motor and said it's a Mac? (Sometimes it's ok knowing people who never get around to what they said they were going to do) Maybe I should go over and get that motor, it ran real well last I knew.
