Info on Mac 92 please

Post by steveohara » Tue Mar 24, 2009 3:54 pm

Hi Guys,

I never owned a new Mac 92 so I'm hoping some of you can help me out with a question about the flywheel cover on that model. Does the 92 flywheel cover have three holes for mounting a recoil pull start assembly or does it have six? All of my 91B1s have the six hole version but I would like to have the right cover on my 92 that I'm building up from parts and I have both types to pick from.
Also, I'm trying to pin down the first model that came equipped with the taller spark plug boot so I would appreciate input from any of you that have motors that you know are all original.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Regards,
Steve O'Hara

Side cover for 92 I do not know but tall plug cover was when the 1/2 inch reach plug came out I know It was the 91b I have an NOS one here. Some of the first bs had low cover with hole in it until the taller ones were available. By the way my NOS 91B has no holes in side cover for starter, Ron

Ron, Louie,

Thanks for the info... I have three versions, no holes, three holes and 6 holes. I will have to go back and check my B and A to see if they have the covers with three holes or no holes.
Hope someone has an all original 92 that they can check to see what it has.
Regards,
Steve

Hmmm had a look through my collection of Mac Ipl's and on the 92 it shows a poor pic of the outer fan housing from the inside view and although it has the bosses for the starter screws they may not be drilled and threaded as the IPL also shows a plastic dust cover over the opening.

Thanks Bill,
With all my 91B1s having six and you and others confirming the 93s have six holes I suspect the 92 does as well.
Right or wrong I'm going with the six hole version on my 92.

Steve

Another question..... for those out there with all original 91B motors.... is your flywheel painted yellow or plain aluminum?
Thanks
