Welding McCulloch Endcovers?

Post by Sonny Gerber » Mon Feb 16, 2009 10:14 pm

Does anyone know how to weld the (yellow) endcover (that holds the flywheel bearing) ? I have seen several that have been repaired, but none looked particularly good. I have a 5 endcover that I'm desperate to fix by mating the top to a good bottom part. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've seen all sorts of welding done on Mac parts but the best I ever found was done in an inert gas cabinet---looks like a glass/sand blast cabinet---you weld with gloves using a tig torch--the whole cabinet is pressurized with argon (or something close) --- this system is used on magnesium welding I think.........not 100%, it's been a while but I remember it was the best I ever saw------A friend of mine welded the top from a mac 9 onto a mac75 so it looked like a 100cc--passed pretty well from a distance 8-)
