Which type of karting jacket currently available i.e. Impact, Bell, Azusa etc would look best for vintage karting? Hard to tell from small pics on websites and nothing available in Australia.

Azusa still makes their "Bruiser" jacket: Black vinyl with a white stripe down each sleeve. Available at Go Kart Galaxy (and probably other Azusa distributors) for $53.95. Contact:

I also got my "silver" nylon cordura jacket and horse collar from Clint at Go Kart Galaxy. It's not fancy, but I even wear it to work on brisk New Mexico mornings. Ted

Re: Karting jackets
... IMO, nothing beats the look of a real aged vintage leather jacket. the one I usually wear, I found on Ebay for $27, a used, nice high quality Italian leather jacket. The Cafe style leather motorcycle jackets work well for vintage karting.
You will find many of these jackets listed at the Vintage PowerSport website that I have about 1/3 set up now.....

(plus other fun stuff like vintage mini-bikes, sleds, motorcycles, race cars.....)

Re: Karting jackets
My neighbor was getting ready to sell some stuff at the Mid-Ohio vintage bike swap meet last summer, and I spotted a diminuitive Bates leather jacket (med blue, with liner, vents, etc.) and it fit me.
The story goes that his wife bet him $200.00 that he couldn't sell it at the swap meet (asking $20.00). I said I'd take it if he brought it back home, so the following day his wife made him give it to me; if I had "bought" it, she'd owe him for the wager. She gave him the $20.00 as a gift to me, and saved herself the $180.00!
I've since had my VKA & McCulloch patches sewn onto the shoulders by a local motorcycle leather shop. My wife has forbade me to wear it in public...
