60-63 Gilson excalibur information wanted

Post by david a luciani » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:16 pm

Hi all,
This is my long term project.
i now have two gilsons and enough parts to do a nearly complete restoration on one and copy parts for the other.
So I'm gathering info on Excaliburs.
i talked with one guy on the East Coast but a computer crashed and i lost the info.
he had a nearly complete one but needed my uphostery to make a pattern.
his motor mount was original and i was gonna make copies.
Who ever you were please get in touch.
Also ,I've heard of a collector that has several on the West coast but that's as far as i've been able to get.
Anybody that can please help and get names to me.

i'm posting two pix of my two in case someone knows where another might be found or info to be had .

Dave,
I was the guy you spoke with on the east coast. My excalibur is in line to be worked on but the rivets have kind of scared me off which is why it is taking a back seat to my McCulloch R1. I have one of the original mounts and need to get a second one cast. Wouldn't mind two. I still need upholstery made too.
Bob

hurray,
Bob, i'm glad you responded.
i'm in no real hurry with these myself.
they are more for display than racing anyway as they are kinda rare.
on the cast parts, if we can get the original i can cast copies.
the motor mount seems pretty simple so i may just make a model so they're cast the same allowing for shrinkage.
i am going to be casting four for myself and i'd be happy to cast a pair for you .
we can work out the details off forum.
on your kart;
your's is way more complete than mine.
but i notice that a piece is missing.
just behind your seat theres a aluminum plate to mount the motor mount to i think.
check the white ones pic.
also you seem to be missing the gas tank mounts.
if you like i'll make two copies instead of one.
i'd love a picture at least of the gas tank so i have an idea of it's look.
in general
between the three i see some differences.
the blue one has a round steel front axle and is bolted together.
yours and the white one have square axle tubes out of aluminum and are rivited.
your pedals are drilled mine aren't.
and yours and the blue one aren't reinforced around the rear axle hole.
the white one has an original looking channel plate inside the rails to re-inforce the area around the hole.
anyway p.m. me and i'll send you my number or call you so we can make some progress.
thanx dave
