Re: Mc 20 clutch removal
Thanks for all the help. It turns out I have a 101 engine with a 20 shroud. I am trying to find a picture of a 101 because I am restoring this Cart and even though I know the motor is not correct I would like it to look the way a 101 should Mine has a chrome shroud and the motor is not painted is this correct? My cart is a 1962 Mac "go cart" If anyone saw the American restoration show it is just like the Cart they restored except my gas tank is shaped different. Should my motor be yellow? Or leave it chrome and cast color thanks again for the help Dave

Dave,
Here is a link you will find helpful. http://macbobaust.com/kart_engines.html.
Specs. and pictures
Also pics of three Mac karts . http://macbobaust.com/kart_brands2.html
Even though I enjoy the show and his work ,the half round tank is not correct for that kart. Mac's have a specfic tank original only to the Mac.
Good Luck,
Kevin

Re: Mc 20 clutch removal
Dave, the 101 is inappropriate for the McCulloch kart as it's a much later engine. Leave the 101 disguised as an Mc20, and at least it'll look right. The Mc20 and Mc30 are period correct. They were painted Mac yellow, with chrome head shrouds and chromed carb plates. The carb bodies were unchromed/unpainted, and the Mc30 had the unpainted sloper single manifold. A lot of us stripped the paint off the blocks and heads at the first rebuild. We thought it made the engine look better and run cooler (I doubt it made much difference...). Ted
