Never had an NOS engine, maybe I am lucky that I don't have to make these kinds of decisions. I build all my engines to run even though most of them are on shelves but they are ready to go when needed.
If I had an NOS engine I probably wouldn't run it, I would probably sell it and buy a couple engines I could run.

I think if I had any NOS engines I wanted to run, I'd still pull them apart to put fresh gaskets and crank seals in them.
But I kinda figure as much as we'd like to think future generations will care wholesale about vintage karts, it's probably not going to happen on any kind of large scale. Just ask the guys who invested heavily in 1930's-50's Lionel trains. They all thought they were going to retire on that stuff, not realizing that they were just competing with their peer group to drive up prices. Now that everyone has retired and wants to sell, a lot of the stuff is literally pennies on the dollar from what it was at its peak.
I sorta figure why keep things nice just for your estate sale?

Dean- Amen to that! If an nos Westbend V5 or Power Products AH 58 Super were on my shelf, they would be snatched off, oiled up, broken in, and run asap. How else could an inanimate object come to life? Beautiful as they are, they're only valuable at this point in time. Remember, we're only here once', so make the most of it!
