Those were used on the single US820 class karts, they did not make a mirror version as far as I know. GEM did make a left hand one piece West Bend box muffler for use with a Margay dual gearbox. A Horstman muffler will fit either way by just turning it upside down on a West Bend. Do you need mufflers for some reason on a hot saw?
G'day Tom, because of the unwheelie nature of the beast i'll be building i have elected to use mufflers, pipes could be fitted at a later stage i suppose i'll be getting the crankshaft adaptor made as soon as my friend from the machine shop get's back to work hopefully next week.
Since the two pto shafts will be facing each other one shaft will carry a clutch while the other will get the clutch drum and adaptor changing or fitting a chain will be a labour of love but i'm sure that if i set the frame up correctly i'll be able to unbolt one engine to allow such as i wish to get the bar and chain in a central position.
The plate that i will make to be the main mount will also mount the bar mount and oil tank in a way like i set up my Copperhead hotsaw and should work in this application, and balance will be very important in this application as the benders ain't light. It's early days yet but it's work in progress a bit slow but it will get there.
The engine selected to be the first to start will have a decompressor and it will start the second engine once it roars to life.
Rest easy fellas " i have the solution in hand " i have two Gem box mufflers one i will fill in the outlet hole and recut another on the opposite side thereby creating a left and a right hand version these are both repo mufflers ...............
Whoo Hoo found a opposite side muffler to suit the Twin 820's i have been building into a hotsaw. Just need to add a deflector to stop my fingers from being converted into toast. Man we making progress.
McBob, have you ever seen a twin 99 two man saw? I've seen a picture of two guys cutting a redwood with a twin running something like a 20 foot bar with a 99 on each end of it. Largest trees on the planet and probably the largest McCulloch saw as well. They have cylinders with an integral head that look similar to the drone cylinders and are rotary valve. I bet they made a racket under full load.
I sure would liked to have heard Miss Lake Havasu City run too, it had five McCulloch 75 horse triples on it with open headers. They widened and lengthened the transom to fit the extra power.
Now that pic of the twin 99's i would luv to see and i have a Model 99 here that i bought some time back and it runs. Plus i have imported a lot of two man saws over the last 12 months i resell most of them to collectors out here in OZ and they have been Mac's Mall's Mercury Disston's Kiekenhaffer.
If you can recall where you seen the pic of the twin 99's i's luv a copy.
